What is 2-Factor Authentication?
2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a new security layer required by the European Union’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) to access financial accounts.
This means you’ll have to enter a one-time 6-digit authentication code in addition to your username and password when you log in to your Business Account.
What type of 2-Factor Authentication is supported by Nium Payments?
We support Time-Based One-Time-Use Passwords (TOTP) generated from authentication apps. We suggest Google Authenticator, but we also support other applications, including FreeOTP, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.
How do I setup my 2-Factor Authentication?
The next time you sign in to your account, we’ll guide you through the set-up process:
- Install a TOTP authenticator application on your mobile device, as a browser plugin, or as a desktop application (we suggest Google Authenticator).
- Pair the TOTP authenticator application by scanning the QR code or manually entering the security key.
- Enter the 6-digit code generated by your TOTP authenticator
- Click Complete
How do I use 2-Factor Authentication?
Once your 2-Factor Authentication is set-up, you will need to enter a 6-digit password when you sign-in to your account or when you try to change specific processes (e.g. managing your account security settings). Open your authenticator application and enter the 6-digit password when prompted for an authenticator code.
I'm having trouble setting up my 2-Factor Authenticator
Some authenticator applications might require manual setup. Please use these settings for a manual setup:
- Type: TOTP
- Digits: 6
- Algorithm: SHA1
- Interval: 30 seconds
It would be best if you also made sure that your device's clock is synchronized correctly to the Internet time. Refer to your device’s manual for more details.
